Tattersalls December Sales (often held in late November) are one of the largest breeding stock sales held in the world, the others being Goffs Ireland and Keeneland Kentucky. The sales which are held at Park Paddocks in Newmarket and run over two weeks. Because of the limited amount of daylight many of the horses are sold at night and creating this painting presents the artist with many difficulties. This scene shows David Trundley at his strongest, creating a powerful atmosphere as the horses walk around the pre sales ring before entering the main building where they can be sold for sums in excess of one million guineas!
